This weekend at the farmers' market I picked up these delicious and fragrant sesame leaves. I asked the farmer how she ate them and she said in her eggs and salad, which I tried and it was yummy. I discovered that the leaves are used in a popular korean dish called "ssam" (literally means wrapped). This dish is usually prepared with a leaf such as sesame leaves, lettuce, pumpkin leaves, cabbage, bean leaves etc. The leaf is used to wrap a piece of pork topped with raw onion, garlic, green pepper or kimchi. I didn't have any pork handy or any of the other ingredients. So I chose to go with a meatless option using, coconut rice and freshly picked cucumber and a sesame oil & soy sauce. It took 20 minutes (rice cooking time), such a simple and easy dish. Try it out and let me know what you think. Enjoy!
