This past week I attended an amazing event called Chocolate & I New York. It is an annual week-long celebration of chocolate and good eating in New York City presented by Migration of Senses, this year the event lasted from February 8th – 14th. The event covered topics on Eating Local & Seasonal, Fair Trade, The Farmer Development Project & Food For Art, the list goes on.

I enjoyed delicious chocolates by chocolatier Damion Badalamenti. He shared his knowledge about the history of chocolate and chocolate production. We had the opportunity to taste his: dark chocolate ganache with honey, lemon and orange zest truffle & caramel and saffron chocolate truffle – both were incredible. I also learned much about honey and the “Importance of Pollination” from Andrew Cote of Bees Without Borders. He brought in samples of his honey and honeycombs to taste.
Some of the art featured at the event included several art pieces made entirely out of candy dots — do you remember those???? I couldn’t believe it.
The highlight of the evening was having the opportunity to taste a delicious chocolate bread with fresh ricotta cheese and honey drizzled on top, from pastry chef Heather Carlucci-Rodriguez, from PRINT. Restaurant. This simple dish has given me several recipe ideas that I will be creating for you all very soon, so stay tuned!
Unfortunately I was only able to attend the Thursday evening festivities. I do look forward to next year and attending more discussions, and tasting more delicious chocolate treats.
They didn’t have any candy dot art that you could eat right? I would pay to eat that (take a picture first) but I pay for that…lol
